Use it or lose it
Stay active by using your body and brain.
“Iron rusts from disuse; stagnant water loses its purity and in cold weather becomes frozen; even so does inaction sap the vigor of the mind.”
So said Leonardo da Vinci in his many notebooks on his observations of nature.
The human body is an efficient machine, which will eliminate what is unused. For instance if you exercise, you build muscles and a better blood circulation. When you stop exercising, the excess muscles, nerves, bones and blood system are cut away as unrequired.
Heart and brain are closely connected, so if there is a problem in one, then the other suffers too. Keeping both brain and body active is important, as it slows the decay in the body and mind. By being inactive in mind and body you are telling your body it is ready to die, so you will age fast and die fast.
Use your brain and body every day by pushing it through a limit. Youth and health are a blessing, and one that is easily destroyed through inactivity and bad habits.

Yes. On point. Necessary…great post Alex.
Thanks, I know from reading your blog that you express this in your own life.
This is why in other countries where retirement doesn’t exist, the elderly are still lucid and somewhat jovial.
I know of people who have retired and died quickly afterwards in the UK. Thanks for your comment.
Okinawa is a prime example… look at the number of centenarians there.

What a cool title! It is short but to the point. It also enlightens readers to where they want to be. Excellent!!!
Thanks for your positive feedback, appreciated.
Well said. Chinese medicine and Ayurvedic medicine intonate exactly the same… but are too often mocked by westeners.
I imagine Pagan folk medicine also advocates the same too.
Yes, the philosophy is pro-active and preventative in approach.
This post reflects back on your post about trying new things. By trying new things, you can keep the mind and body well exercised, well challenged, and strong.
You would definitely enjoy a post by Andrea Elliot, which is very similar to both your post about new things and this one, http://holisticwords.com/2012/11/02/fly-in-the-face-of-fear/
You have a great blog!
Thanks for your link. I shall head over and take a look.
